Most likely a debt collector attempting to locate some alleged debtor.  They are not allowed by law (FDCPA) to disclose to third parties that they are attempting to collect a debt, so they often use similar lies.
Since you don’t know the person, simply tell her so, and tell her to stop calling you.  If they are reasonably professional, they will just move on to some other way to locate the person.
If they are incompetent or abusive thugs, they will keep harassing you anyway, in which case there are ways to get them to stop.

The can’t be a collection agency because I filed bankrupcy and was discharged of all debt in 2010. Their website says they are a communications company and all information given them will be held confidential. They called my cell phone and I am on the do not call list. If a person has done business with an affiliate of theirs the do not call list doesn’t apply. I do not answer any calls to my home or cell phone from numbers that I do not recognize. If you do not answer they will eventually stop in a relatively short time; however answering tells them that the number they are calling is in service and they will continue calling. The number they called from was 630-206-1779. I googled the number and it was Vitelity, LLC. My only suggestion is do not answer any calls from numbers you do not recognize.

===========================================

Vitelity is a telecom that sells VoIP services.
These types of phone services are commonly used by telemarketing and debt collection call centers, among others.  They provide cheap and flexible long distance calling from anywhere, with many added services useful to call center, and easy expansion.  They may show up on caller id under various area codes and phone numbers, even when the call may actually originate overseas.
When the caller id says “Vitelity”, it may mean that the caller is a customer of Vitelity, who is buying their VoIP services, but has not set the caller id message from it’s default value.

Legitimate call centers would set caller id to report their company name, or possibly their client’s company name, and their 800 callback number.
You cannot trust caller id, since it can be spoofed.  In fact, although YOUR caller id is set by your phone company to match your information, ANY call center PBX system can set it to whatever they want.

Fraudulent users of VoIP have been reported to set phony caller id settings, and might appear to be anyone they think might help them in their fraudulent scheme:  the sheriff, your bank, your employer, a well known U.S. company, whatever.

Cell phones are frequent targets of sequential block autodialing by scammy telemarketers. The caller might not even have any information on you specifically, but just be systematically cold calling, even if it violates TCPA and the Do Not Call laws.  In these cases, the caller id number might be some other company’s number, to hide the source of illegal calls, or even a disconnected number.

Consumer complaints include many reports of fraudulent and extortionate calls from overseas scammers that show up with a caller id of “Vitelity LLC”.  Their services are being used by fraudulent telemarketers and overseas scammers, including fake “payday loan debt collection” scams.

Your debts may all have been discharged in bankruptcy, be legally unowed, you might not even owe any debt at all.  Many debt collectors could care less.  They will call, threaten, harass, and deceive, trying to con you into paying them anyway.
Vitelity, telecom to the scams.

BE CAREFUL of these dirt bags.  I’m getting calls from Vitelity, too, BUT ONLY AFTER I BLOCKED CALLER ID FROM AN ATTORNEY IN PENNA MAKING AUTOMATED COLLECTION CALLS TO MY HOME.  I had bankruptcy 1996 and  have impeccable credit and payment history since.  the attorney was posted on internet as a dirtbag who goes thru OLD BANKRUPTCIES and pulls off debts that did not get paid, finds some law loophole to revive it and hound you for the rest of your life to pay it. If you block his calls, he finds these other dirtbags to hound you instead under another number.  He also moves around alot to different addresses and has area code numbers in various states.  they’re all part of a group called ‘DIRTBAGS”

I called the number back and they gave me info about being able to winn a $100.00 dollars a day if your number is picked, I unsubscribed, and they said it would take 7 business days to get off, I hope everybody does this so they don’t get calls everyday. if it doesn’t stop I will do it again

==========================================

Did that work?   I did the same thing – after calling them back about 20 times in an hour and laying the phone on the table..  I am retired and have plenty of time on my hands.  I figure I can all them and tie up their hardware and lines at least tem times the number of calls they make to me.

I like your idea. I just hung up on Vitelity LLC after telling them off about being disrespectful to clients. They had the nerve to tell me they will call me Monday. On Monday I will answer the phone and lay it down and try to find some dirty rap music to play for them. That way I don’t have to use profanity. I am also retired and don’t mind giving bill collectors a dose of thier own disrespecful medicine. Thanks !!!

Who, exactly, do they say they are?

Other complaints have indicated that Vitelity is just some VoIP company, used by both call centers, and often by overseas scammers.  When “Vitelity LLC” shows up on caller id, it appears to just indicate the telecom compay linking the call into the U.S.  http://vitelity.com/

They are increasingly showing up in connection with scam calls from out of the couhtry.

==============================================

Other complaints.  Telemarketing calls, Do Not Call violations, phony “debt collection attorney” extortion scams, phony “detective” debt collection extoriton scams, phishing scams,  pnony “bank” phishing scams, phony “discount medical” scams, phony “medical survey” scams, etc,

Levels of complaints are increasing.
“Police Detective – 7 May 2010
I am a Police Detective in Colorado.  I am investigating this company whose reps (Indian accent) are impersonating “Detectives”, “Officers” & “Investigators”.  When I called posing as the person they originally called, my victim, I was told they were affiliated with the United States Government and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.  When I questioned his affiliation with the FBI and requested a mailing address to send a letter to verify who he was, I was told he would not give me an address.  He told me my job was to relay his message to the person he was trying to contact who owed $250.00 to a company called Cash Net.  When I told him I would not relay any messages for him he told me to wait a couple of days to see what would happen to me.  I consider that a threat.  I am investigating this company and its parent companies/affiliates in an attempt to locate the people placing these calls.  If they are in the U.S., I will prosecute them.  If they are outside the U.S., I will do all I can to convince their phone service providers to cancel them.”

Dear Sir, The BBB gives you a great rating as long as you or your company pays their annual dues.    I am a retired PI in Rhode Island and a case against the BBB was ours.  We proved my info to you.  I too have received calls from this Vitelity LLC company with a Florida area code.  I noted that all the other complaints have different area codes and phone numbers and are trying all kinds of tricks to get information out of the call receiver.  I conacted the Providence Office of the FBI and they are working on this.  The agent I spoke to today said that they have had more calls today about this Vitelity LLC than anything else.  Usually I hang up on them.  I just felt like goofing on this guy today but I could not understand him because of the middle eastern accident.  Be a buddy and notify your friends.  Thanks for your message.”

Hello I got that same exact call from this # 630-239-5928 from Vitelity llc asaying I took out a load of $500 from Net Cash and never payed when I didnt they have all my info Address last Four of my SSN DL # they even called my friends asking about me Dont know what to do they also said they were going to come to my job and serve me paper and i was going to get arrested on Monday when here in USA is a holiday lol I told them to stop harrassing me. Thanks please HELP!!”

Due to the high levels of scam complaints associated with these calls, you should be very wary about believing anything they say, or disclosing ANY information to them.

“Calling about your son’s car” may just be the opening line in a phony debt collection scam.  Such scams often contact and attempt to panic relatives, or harass employers, even before calling and harassing their intended victim.   Or it could be a fraudulent telemarketer pitching scam “auto warranties”.

received a call from Nolen Cooper (248) 928-1228 who said he was calling about a debt of one of our patients at our dental office. It seemed suspicious since he gave me the wrong total and pronounced her name as as Kristin rather than Kristine. His phone number came up on my called id with Vitelity LLC. He did not have an accent, but I googled Vitelity LLC and collection before calling back since it seemed so odd. We haven’t seen the patient in over 3 years and her debt was not collected. He was telling us it was collected on 11/9 and he had some questions for me. I didn’t call him back. I’ll post if he calls again. Sounds like Vitelity might be a communications company and he just has a phone number through them. Sort of like if calls came up saying AT&T or Verizon on your caller id. If I understand, it isn’t Vitelity who is making the calls. It is come guy who used Vitelity for his phone service.

Received call from 919-238-7062 VITELITY, LLC at 7:00 pm EST. I have learned not to pick up any call I do not recognize the number. They did not leave a message but hung up right away. As soon as they did, I googled Vitelity and found enough information to confirm I did the right thing. Tell your friends and loved ones to do the same…the older they are the more vulnerable they are. Do everyone a favor and education them! That will stop these predators! Screen your calls! Nothing is safe anymore.

I got an voice messsage from caller id name Vittelity LLc saying “You will die”  , I tried to call back but as I learned from these complaints, that is not who is actually calling. That was very scary to us,and I think something should be done to stop this situation. It is affecting lots of people.

Just got 4 calls in a row from Vitelity, LLc. The number was 214-377-5992. A guy with a heavy accent said he “John” trying to complete his final year of his MBA. Needed my help with a survey. When I said “no” and hung up, he called back – 3 more times! Wanted my email address. He got very agitated when I wouldn’t give it to him. Who are these people and what do they want? When I call the number back, I get a message that says, “You call cannot be completed due to a temporary error.”

Dear US Guys I have receiving calls from  Vitelity lots of time
I got a call this morning on my cellphone at 8:35am. This is illegal for three reasons. Their number is 516-953-1168.

1- It was before 9am
2- I’m on the national do not call list
3- Their business phone line is supposed to be a 1-800 or 1-888 number. According to federal law, you cannot require customers (prospective or not) to call you back in regards to ANYTHING as a business without one of those two numbers. This is obviously NOT a free phone number.

I got the call, they didn’t leave a message and hung up after 2 rings. It wasn’t my cellphone, but my husband’s. Naturally wondering who the fuck would call MY house that early and wake up my kids, I called back. A ghetto kid answered. I asked why they called my cellphone, he pretends like he can’t hear me and hangs up.

So, I mulled over it a bit. I got instantly angrier. I now have two kids awake, and this jackass could hear me perfectly fine (I could hear myself through his speakers). I called back. Sat on hold for about 45minutes, getting madder and madder.

Almost same exact voice, same exact kid. Ghetto speaking, sounds like he doesn’t even have a license. Pretty much a young piece of shit that hung up on me earlier. He asks for my name this time. (??) I tell him it’s none of his business, and then ask why he’s calling my phone at 8am. No response. I tell him off and tell him to get a license (I know, off the wall). I tell him he’s lucky I’m not shutting down his company after what he did since I’m an attorney. (I stopped working for the kiddlings) That he broke 3 federal laws and never to call my number again.

You know what he says? “God bless you too”. Not you little fucking twat, apparently you don’t understand. I have two kids screaming now because you fucking had the nerve to call my number when you’re not supposed to. So, I rail into him more. He keeps repeating “God bless you”. So I lose it. I say, if God wanted to bless me he wouldn’t of put assholes like you on this planet. You don’t call someone’s house this early, especially if you don’t know them and if you’re running a shit business – you DEFINATELY don’t break any laws!!

So, I hang up. Do some digging. Apparently, this is a scam. They are looking for personal information in order to scam you. It’s based in Florida, and the Attorney General has caught wind of it already. So, if you get these calls too – file a complaint!
